 The most famous sport Competition in the world is the Olympic Games, which are held every four years. 

 The first Olympic Games were held by the Greeks in 776 B.C. in honor of the Greek God Zeus. It was held in Olympia in Greece. The ancient Olympic Games were banned in 393 A.D.

The first modern Olympic  Games were started by the French educator and sportsman Pierre de Coubertin in 1896 A.D. These games are now held in different countries.


The Olympic flag has five interlaced rings on a white back ground. These rings represent the five continents, Europe, Asia, Africa, America and Australia.


In ancient times women were not allowed to participate in these sports.  But today both men and women can participate in these sports. Some of the events are rowing, swimming, cycling, gymnastics, pistol shooting, field events and track events. 

In many countries, thousands of athletes come in to the stadium.  All the athletes from every country wear colorful uniforms.  In the past Olympic Games, the winners received only a wreath of olive leaves, but today the Olympic Games present medals to the winners.  

There are three types of medals.  They are gold, silver, and bronze.  The Olympic Games bring unity to nations around the world.  The Olympics carry an important message to the sports world.  That is, "Not to win, but to take part''. The theme of the modern Olympic Games is world peace. Olympic was held  this year in Tokyo, Japan.
